Downtown Façade Grant Program

The Town of Norwood is pleased to announce the establishment of a new downtown façade grant program.  The program is funded at $20,000 for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 with $10,000 coming from Town funds and $10,000 from a generous contribution from Uwharrie Bank.  This program is designed to provide support to business and property owners within the downtown area who want to improve their properties.  The program will provide a matching grant up to $5,000 to improve the exterior of commercial downtown properties.  Work funded under this matching grant program is expected to respect the architectural integrity of the building and the historic downtown streetscape.

Downtowns are the historic cores of most communities, and efforts to preserve, maintain and revitalize downtown buildings are key to maintaining the image and economic vitality of communities.  This program is one of the ways that the Town of Norwood is seeking to continually improve its downtown core.  Guidelines, application forms, and a map of the program boundary can be found on the Town’s website under the Town Administrator section and are available at Town Hall.  All applications will be reviewed and approved by the Façade Grant Committee appointed by the Town Board of Commissioners.

Notice of Public Hearing

Notice is hereby given that the Town of Norwood will hold a public hearing on October 7, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at 212 South Main Street, Norwood, NC 28128 to solicit public input pursuant to NCGS 160D-1203 to consider ordinances to cause the following residential structures at 413 North Kendall Street, 533 Vincent Street, and 538 Barringer Chapel Road to be repaired, vacated, and closed, or removed or demolished as provided in the Original Order of the Town’s Code Enforcement Officer.   Information regarding these ordinances is available at Town Hall.

 

Notice of Public Hearing

Notice is hereby given that the Town of Norwood will hold a public hearing on October 7, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at 212 South Main Street, Norwood, NC 28128 to solicit public input on local community development and needs in relation to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for a project in our community.

The Town of Norwood anticipates submitting a CDBG application in Program Year 2024.  The program will involve “Housing Related Activities” such as Housing Rehabilitation, Substantial Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, Temporary Relocation, and Emergency Housing Repair.  All properties will be located in the Town of Norwood.  The project activities will cost $950,000.                             The program will provide 100% benefit to low and moderate income persons, and plans to minimize displacement and provide displacement assistance “as necessary.”  Citizens will also be given the opportunity to provide oral and written comment on Norwood’s use of CDBG funds.  All interested citizens are encouraged to attend.
