The Town of Norwood owns and maintains two parks – the Darrell Almond Community Park and Memorial Park.
Darrell Almond Community Park is located at 748 North Main Street, across from the intersection of North Main Street (US 52 Highway) and South Stanly School Road. The park was built in 2001, and is named after former Mayor Darrell Almond.
The park has a one-half mile paved track, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard, gazebo, three picnic shelters that are available for rent, and a pond.
The Town of Norwood does not rent the gazebo, however it is available to all citizens. The main picnic shelter at the park entrance can be rented. The rental fee is $50.00 for up to four hours. The creekside shelter can be rented for a fee of $40.00 for up to four hours. The Lion’s Club Shelter is also available for use, however there is no rental fee for it. Contact the Norwood Town Hall for reservations.
Norwood Memorial Park is located on West Turner Street. It is comprised of two Dixie Youth softball fields and a concession stand.
Recently, the Town of Norwood renovated the tennis courts and turned them into sand volleyball courts. If you are interested in using the volleyball courts, please contact Norwood Town Hall at (704) 474-3416.
The Norwood Community Building is located beside Memorial Park, at 247 West Turner Street. It is one of four congregate nutrition sites in Stanly County where midday meals are served Monday through Friday, sponsored by the Stanly County Senior Services Department.
Citizens can also rent the Community Building by contacting the Town of Norwood at (704) 474-3416. The rental fee is $100.00 for up to four hours, and $25.00 for each additional hour.
