Notification of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater

The Town of Norwood experienced a discharge of untreated wastewater on October 20, 2020 at the North Turner Outfall Line, located near N Turner Street. Ongoing flow of untreated wastewater reached an unnamed tributary to Little Cedar Creek, located in the Yadkin-Pee Dee River Basin.

The Division of Water Resources was notified of the event on October 20, 2020 and is reviewing the matter. For more information contact the Town of Norwood at (704) 474-3416.

Rest assured Norwood, in cooperation with our water and sewer operating vendor Envirolink, are addressing the problem. Our sewer-jetter was not sufficient size and strength so Envirolink is bringing a stronger one or two to make sure we correct this problem as quickly and safely as possible.

Untreated Water Discharge Update

The Town of Norwood shared with you last Tuesday October 20, 2020 that we experienced a discharge of untreated water near North Turner Street.
Norwood Public Works contained the leak the same day. They used a by-pass pump to ensure the sewer customers upstream were safe from any back-up in their homes and businesses.

They administered lime on the ground where the spill occurred. Public Works also flushed out the affected creek after a temporary damn was built. the spill was then pumped into a sewer truck and properly disposed of into our sewer system.

A big THANK YOU to your Public Works Department for containing the discharge while maintaining safe sewer service and effectively treating the spill in an appropriate and state-approved manner.
